Purpose of Life

Khan Imran

Fool lives to eat and a Wise man eats to live”. But then a question remains for what purpose does the wise man live?

Living life is the most wonderful thing in this world. Everybody wants to live for more years. Even I too would like to live for as many years as I can but that’s not possible.

The reason being, Allah says in Quran,

KULLU NAFSIN ZAYKATUL MAUT” i.e. every soul has to taste the death. Then Allah says in Quran:

KULLU MAN ALLAIHA FAAN, YABKA WAJHU RABBIKA ZALJALALI WAL IKRAM”.

In this verse Allah wants to say that “everything is going to get finished, the only thing that will remain is Almighty Allah”. From these two verses we come to know that one day we have to leave this materialistic world.

Before writing something more on this beautiful topic I expect all of you to think about a question that should come in one’s mind before telling that I want to live for more and more years. Why I am here and what is the purpose of life?

Allah (SWT) states in the Quran (2:30) that:

HE CREATED MAN TO BE HIS KHALEEFAH, HIS TRUSTEE ON EARTH”. Then Allah (SWT) says in Quran (51:56-58) “AND I DID NOT CREATE JINN AND MANKIND EXCEPT TO WORSHIP ME”. Allah further states in Quran (67:2)“{HE} WHO CREATED DEATH AND LIFE TO TEST YOU (AS TO) WHICH OF YOU IS BEST IN DEED AND HE IS THE EXALTED IN MIGHT THE FORGIVING”.

There are some people in this world who do not believe in creator (atheists), they only believe in sensory data. They say that this universe and everything in it came by itself. But it’s not like that, until and unless a thing doesn’t have its producer and manufacturer that thing cannot come into existence. Those who believe in creator can answer these questions. They know that they come into existence by being created by the creator and they also know that there is an eternal life after death.

While doing the market research for the topic, I started asking my management student friends “what do you think is the purpose of our life?” most of them answered “TO ENJOY LIFE TO FULL EXTEND” but some of them answered to serve Allah, to be among the best servants of Allah. Furthermore they added to obey the laws and commandments set by Allah. When I asked the same question to my non-Muslim friends some of them answered “EAT DRINK AND SLEEP” that was something good to discuss, Allah says in Qur’an chapter 16 verse 36 “And we surely send from every people a messenger (with the command).”Serve Allah and avoid evil”. From the people were some whom Allah guided and some for whom error could not be avoided. So travel through the earth and see what was the end of those who rejected (the Faith and the Truth).

Furthermore Allah says in Qur’an chapter 2 verse 62 Indeed , those who believe (in the Qur’an), and those who are Jews and Christians,-Any who believe in Allah and the last day, and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; On them there shall be no fear, and they shall not grieve.

As the life here is considered as the examination for the individual, the stage is considered as the resting period after the test. It could be easy for those who are faithful and dedicated or it could be horrible for the wicked. Reward and punishment will be in direct proportion to each person and it is only Allah alone who will be the final judge over all of us. In sincerity and peace to the almighty One God [Islam], the line of life and its purpose is logical, clear and simple: The first life is a test. The life in the grave is a resting and waiting place before the Day of Judgment the Day of Judgment brings about a clear understanding of what will now happen to the individuals based on his own desires and actions.

The permanent or after life will either be spent in luxurious splendor or miserable punishment.

Following this clear understand of life the Muslims purpose is clear. First of all, he has no doubt in his mind that he is only created by Allah. He is going to spend a period of time in this materialistic world. He knows he will die. He know he will spend time in the grave either pleasant or difficult depends on his own choice of attitude and action.

He knows he will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment. And last but not the least He will be judged according to the most fair of the standards by Allah the Almighty.
